Family Funeral Directors Dorset
With over 100 years of experience serving families in Weymouth, Portland and the surrounding areas, Cotton & Son understands that arranging a funeral and coping with the loss of someone close can feel overwhelming. Our caring and experienced team is here to guide you through the practical arrangements, answer your questions and offer support at every stage. We are always happy to talk through your circumstances and help you understand the options available to you.
We understand that the cost of arranging a funeral can be a concern, particularly at an already difficult time. If you receive certain benefits and are responsible for arranging a funeral, you may be eligible for help towards some of the costs through a Funeral Expenses Payment.
The easiest way to apply for a Funeral Expenses Payment is to telephone the government helpline on 0800 731 0469 and choose option 2. Lines are open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

You may also be able to receive up to £1000 towards other funeral expenses, such as funeral director's fees, flowers or a coffin.
A Funeral Expenses Payment will not usually cover the full cost of a funeral, and the amount you may receive will depend on your individual circumstances. This can include any other money available to help pay for the funeral, such as money from an insurance policy or the estate of the person who has died.
For the most up-to-date information about Funeral Expenses Payments, eligibility and how to apply, please visit the official government website: https://www.gov.uk/funeral-payments

We understand that our support does not end when the funeral has taken place. The days and weeks following a death can bring many practical challenges, as well as the emotional impact of bereavement.
Through our partnership with Laurelo Aftercare, families can access additional support and guidance to help navigate some of the difficult steps that follow a loss. Providing expert guidance and practical information, Laurelo Aftercare offers continued support to help you through the weeks and months following the death of someone close.

At Cotton & Son, we believe that caring for a family extends beyond arranging and conducting a funeral. Everyone experiences grief differently, and there is no right or wrong way to feel following the death of someone close.
As part of our commitment to supporting bereaved families, we work with the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) to provide access to further bereavement support and advice.
Through SAIF Care, families can access a free bereavement care helpline and online chat service, staffed by trained bereavement specialists. The SAIF Care team is available to offer a listening ear, provide reliable information and help you find appropriate sources of support and services in your local area.
If you are finding it difficult to cope following a bereavement, please do not feel that you have to manage on your own. Our team is always happy to listen and can help you find the right support for your individual circumstances.
